Discover the impact of these nonprofits in celebrating people, places and experiences.
Here is Oregon’s mission of celebrating the people, places and experiences in Oregon would not be complete without shining a light on the nonprofits that are doing some of our state’s most important work. We refer to our nonprofit partners as “Community Champions” and acknowledge that each of them provides invaluable services that make our state a place worth celebrating.
From an environmental nonprofit ensuring our beaches stay clean to an association dedicated to advancing equity throughout the private sector, we’re proud to partner with nonprofits leading the charge for our environment, communities of color and businesses that keep Oregon thriving. Here is Oregon aims to “raise all ships” through the power of storytelling.
Each quarter, we get in touch with our nonprofit partners to hear what initiatives, current events and stories they want to share. Through the power of our audience (that’s you, reader!), we hope our Community Champion stories spark conversation, enlighten ways we can be better and inspire you to be the change you wish to see in Portland and throughout the state.
Some of our favorite Community Champion stories from 2023 include:
This event is helping to create a roadmap to a more inclusive workplace – Partners in Diversity
A beacon of hope: catalyst for change in Oregon’s economic landscape – Black Business Association of Oregon
Local sports pioneer returns home to impact Oregon sports for the better – Sport Oregon
We encourage our readers to learn more about our Community Champions by reading additional stories within the Sponsor Content section of HereisOregon.com and by keeping tabs on our Community page to see what nonprofit and community events the Here is Oregon Community Connections Team will be at next.
Some of our favorite events from the last year have been hosted by our Community Champions, including Say Hey!, a BIPOC networking event hosted by Partners in Diversity, as well as several community partners we’ve had the pleasure to work with this past year including Cascade Lock’s PCT Days, Vanport Jazz Festival and Portland’s Pride Ride. Do you have an event happening that you think we should know about? Email hello@hereisoregon.com and fill us in. We may be able to bring our Here is Oregon photobooth, which creates GIFs and captures still photos, available for download on the spot. While we love to amplify our Community Champions stories, what we would love even more is to spark direct action. Take the next step and get involved by donating or volunteering through each of our Community Champions homepages, linked below. Thank you, Community Champions!
